For Spring Hill College's Your Life Your Right event we held a a discussion with officers from our school's public safety office. It ranged from what we were allowed to do to defend ourselves on campus to hearing some rather humorous stories from their past lives at other institutions. My goal here was to grow our college's community rather than to “trigger” my campus. I have often found that conversation goes further than testing the system. Because I went this route I learned there were ways to defend oneself on my campus which may not be available to other campuses. Being on a private campus though does hinder one's ability to bring up issues such as right to protect as they can often times set their own rules on campus. I do appreciate though that we can defend ourselves and I have started a relationship with my school's public safety office.
