Dead whale in Nags Head, North Carolina, Autopsy reveals new details

A young, deceased whale washed up on the beach in
Nags Head Saturday.
The whale was in pretty bad shape when it was found near Jeanette’s Pier.
Officials say so far, an animal autopsy has revealed she had eaten recently so she did not starve to death.

NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) – Researchers with the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education aren’t sure what killed a whale that washed up in Nags Head on Feb. 4.

The whale was found about a half a mile north of Jeanette’s Pier in Nags Head. Crews worked with the town to get heavy equipment to aid in the removal of the 27-foot female whale.
On Monday, the stranding team performed a necropsy, but the whale’s cause of death has not yet been determined.
However, the center believes she died before washing up on the beach.
