Al Nusra Front Captures Ancient Christian Town Of Maaloula (Video)

An al Qaeda-linked rebel group has wrested control of the historic Christian town of Maaloula from regime forces, opposition groups said Sunday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the hardline Islamist rebels of the al-Nusra Front seized control Saturday night.

Christians in America should petition the White House to protect fellow Christians in Syria. Maaloula is one of 3 villages in Syria that still speak the language of Christ. One of the oldest monastaries in Syria is built here, Mar Sakis, named at St. Sergius, a Roman soldier executed for his Christian faith. Another, Mar Taqla, holds the remains of reputed disciple and wife os St. Paul, St. Thecla. According to legend, in the 1st century C.E., St. Taqla was being pursued by soldiers of her father to capture her because of her Christian faith. She came upon a mountain, and after praying, the mountain split open and let her escape through. The town gets its name from this gap or entrance in the mountain.

Not only are these fellow Christians but these people speak the language of Christ in one of the earliest centers of Christianity. I think that deserves to be saved, don’t you? -Mort
