World Jewry Expresses Solidarity with the People of Israel:
Jewish Agency to Provide Financial Support to Hundreds of Families Unable to
Return to Their Homes Due to Fire Damage

Sharansky: “World Jewry feels closely connected to what is taking place in
Israel and comes to our help without hesitation. We are proud of our
partners and appreciate their solidarity when it matters the most”

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL – The Jewish Agency for Israel will provide immediate
financial assistance to hundreds of families across the country who cannot
return to their homes due to damage caused by the wildfires of the past
week. A grant of $1,000 will be provided to each family in order to help
them address urgent needs presented by the loss of their place of residence.
Eligible recipients will be identified by local authorities in coordination
with the National Emergency Authority. Funding for the grants will be
provided by special contributions from the Jewish Federations of North
America—led by the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago—Keren
Hayesod-UIA, and additional donors.

Chairman of the Executive of The Jewish Agency for Israel Natan Sharansky
said: “At trying times like these, world Jewry feels closely connected to
what is taking place in Israel and comes to our help without hesitation. We
are proud of our partners in Jewish communities around the world, and
particularly in North America, and appreciate their solidarity when it
matters the most.”

The Jewish Agency for Israel is the largest Jewish nonprofit organization in
the world. Founded in 1929, The Jewish Agency was instrumental in founding
and building the State of Israel and has brought more than three million
Jews home to the Jewish state, including tens of thousands this past year
alone. Today the organization swerves as the primary link between Israel and
the Jewish world, bringing young Jews to experience life in the Jewish state
and sending young Israelis to share their country with Jewish communities
around the world. The Jewish Agency works to narrow social gaps within
Israel and empower all segments of Israeli society while dispatching Israeli
young people and their worldwide Jewish peers to volunteer in
underprivileged communities in Africa, Latin America, and Israel’s
socioeconomic periphery. The organization serves as the Jewish world’s first
responder, prepared to rescue and bring Jews home to Israel from countries
where they are at risk and addressing emergency situations in Israel and
Jewish communities abroad. Learn more at http://www.jewishagency.org
