This is yuge – and not good, either.

Ford just released its Q3 earnings and while the company is still making money, it is making a lot less money. Pre-tax net earnings are down to $1.4 billion, which sounds solid until you compare them with the previous quarter’s pre-tax net earnings, which were $3 billion.

See here.

In plain terms, Ford earned less than half during the third quarter vs. the previous quarter.

I wrote a few weeks ago about the canary in the coal mine.

He just hit the bottom of the cage, feet up.

The move to Mexico on the smaller car(s) might have made some difference in people’s buying choice. I would not buy an Escape, for example, cause of reported problems which the Rave 4, and others don’t seem to have. Ford had a fairly good reliability rating and I have a 2007 Grand Marquis to prove that, but I would not buy a Ford anymore, partly on their Mexico (jobs) move. (yes, I know the GM was probably made in Canada, but still more American then down under)
