Automotive Inspiration – The True Purpose of the Car…

The True Purpose of THE CAR… Here we go again… I’m going to ask you to take a little ride with me as we explore the meaning of the word “Drive.” A very appropriate word indeed which is why it’s this week’s Ride. OK, let’s define the purpose of a car. If is were in Webster’s Dictionary, it would say “Vehicular Contraption used to Transport Coolness.” So true. But, if on the surface level the car is meant for transportation and that’s clear, let’s head a little deeper. If we use cars to move, then everything changes around us. Scenery, Sounds, Smells. Everything. And that can be awesome, but what doesn’t change is you. You are trapped in this box and like it or not, you’re gonna have to stay in it for a bit. Why not use it for something really cool…er?

 

Now you’re saying, “Where is this Fireball going? What’s he talking about?” “Did I forget to change my underwear today?” (Ok, not the last one, but…) There’s a point here, so stay with me. Because you’re basically a captive audience in your car, you actually have some choices. You can listen to music, make a hands-free phone call or you can think. Ah-ha! Thinking is the last thing on people’s minds (Weird, eh?) because it requires you to either flow with the stream of thought (easy-peasy) or actually make a choice as to what you want to think about. Life is made up of choices. And the quality of your choices manifests as things in your life.

 

Driving cars has great potential for thinking as it keeps you in the moment. You do have to pay attention to the act of driving, but instead of grumbling as to why things are not working in your life, next time you go out, consciously decide to solve something. Be persistent and determined that you will solve this issue before you get to where you’re going. Driving has a potential to be good therapy. You get to choose where you want to go and what your experience will be like in getting there. But you have to choose wisely and not just run with the random stream and start worrying about stuff. Learn to let go. Don’t get caught up in problems, but make an effort to solve something. I do this daily which is why I love to drive. I look forward to thinking and solving issues or being creative. By the time I get to where I’m going, I’m jacked to be there even if it’s to go pick up Cashew Milk, Vegan Chorizo and a super-fat bar of chocolate.

 

The true purpose of a car isn’t to just get you someplace. It’s to give you the gift of the present. And we here in Malibu, we get this gift of Beauty daily, even in traffic. But you’ll miss it all if you don’t raise your awareness to what’s around you. Be grateful that although you may be in traffic, the homes, beach and hills are all here to lend a hand in making your world wonderful. Let them do their job and don’t blow them off. Drive cool and watch as your experiences improve. You’ll be glad you did.
