#Gosnell: Where’s the Obama DOJ?

The details of the barbaric crimes committed at Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s charnel house continue to shock and horrify us all. People from all ideological stripes rightly question the media blackout surrounding these events, and should well be outraged at what appears to be a carefully-orchestrated censorship of a story that is harmful to Left/Media narratives (Ace of Spades provides a brilliant synthesis of one of the underlying reasons here, my quick video mashup-summation here).

There remains, however, one Big Question that has not yet been asked, and for which we should demand an immediate answer:

Where was the Department of Justice?

The Department of Justice is specifically tasked with prosecuting violations of federal law. The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002 clarifies the personhood status of an abortion survivor….period. Thus, a born-alive abortion survivor is entitled to all of his or her Constitutional protections…in this case, specifically, those enumerated in the Fifth and Fourteen Amendments of the United States Constitution.

No matter what side of the abortion argument you choose to take, I think it is safe to surmise that a scissor to the spine of a living, breathing, newborn constitutes a gross deprivation of life without due process of law. If this is not a civil rights violation, then I don’t know what is.

So I’ll ask again. Where was the Obama Department of Justice? Where was Attorney General Eric Holder as news of this barbarism broke? We know that they function in Philadelphia because the DOJ rolled back the New Black Panther adjudication. Where was Civil Rights Division head Thomas Perez as news of these horrific crimes burned into our brains? Was the Civil Rights Division too focused on Voter ID litigation to take an interest in the systematic butchery of hundreds of (mostly minority) newborns? If there is ever a case that justifies the existence of the Civil Rights Division, it it surely this one.

Even today, as horrific details continue to emerge, the DOJ -as the enforcement arm of the United States Government- has taken no action whatsoever in the prosecution of these blatant civil rights violations. Their silence, along with the silence of the media as witnessed by the empty courtroom benches, reveals them to be unindicted co-conspirators.

The martyrs of the Women’s Medical Society deserve better than that.
