One of the factoids found in reading around about Josh Prater is that he liked to go off into the desert and “shoot guns.” No doubt the media will love that one. He was also a straight A student. What makes little sense is that he allegedly admitted to building the fused device a long time ago but claims he didn’t know it contained “explosives.”
Either he’s lying, or it doesn’t take an Einstein to get straight A’s these days. Okay, maybe both those things are true. Police found other materials in his room after a housekeeper turned him in.
The woman reportedly brought the device to the Tempe Arizona Fire Department, which called the city’s bomb squad to examine it. The device turned out to be an active improvised explosive device IED, azfamily.com reports.”They had it X-rayed, they saw it was a valid IED,” Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley said, according to MyFoxPhoenix.com. “It was something that wasnt big, but could cause serious injuries and the death of someone.”
