Syrian Refugee in Louisiana Disappears After A Few Days

The country has been debating whether or not to take in Syrian refugees. One of the big concerns is that some members of ISIS could be among them.

Some concerns are being raised about the inability to track refugees once they enter. In Baton Rouge, Louisiana a Syrian refugee has already disappeared. Catholic Charities, which is in charge of Syrian refugee resettlement in Louisiana, reports that they helped a Syrian refugee who has vanished after a few days.


The Hayride reports that the organization does not track them. Indeed, it appears that Syrian refugees are not tracked by anybody once they enter the U.S.

The news may seem alarming that neither state government nor the federal government track newly-arrived refugees who have just entered the country, but it is actually not uncommon at all.Refugees are first flown to the United States, according to the French news wire Agence France-Presse, with the State Department paying the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the airfare.Then, once refugees arrive in the country, they can be dispersed across a number of US cities (which includes Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Metairie), where they are aided within the first 30 to 90 days in settling and finding employment in the area.
After approximately 90 days, refugees are no longer eligible for the State Department-funded support that they were receiving through migrant and refugee services. However, they are able to join support programs through the Department of Health and Human Services. 

With possible terrorist connections and concerns, don’t you feel better that your government doesn’t track refugees. This is a problem with immigrants of all kinds admitted to the U.S.A study in 2013 found that 40% of all illegal immigrants to the United States were visa overstays.
