Thunder Over Iowa: More Than 500 Faith and Cultural Conservative Leaders Endorse... Ted Cruz

Led by such well known faith and cultural conservative leaders as Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, Bob VanderPlaats of the Family Leader, Pastor Joseph Brown, Vicki Crawford, Dr. James Dobson, Rabbi Yaakov Rosenblatt, Gary Bauer, Reverend CL Bryant, Brian Brown of The National Organization For Marriage, CHQ’s Richard A. Viguerie and Bishop E.W. Jackson, over 500 more faith and cultural conservative leaders have endorsed Senator Ted Cruz for President in advance of the Iowa Caucuses. 

In endorsing Ted Cruz for President Tony Perkins spoke for many faith leaders and cultural conservatives when he said, ”I trust Ted to fight to pull America out of the political and cultural tailspin that President Obama’s policies have put us in. This is no normal election; this election is about the very survival of our Constitution and our republic.” 

Perkins added a key consideration in the minds of many faith-first voters; Ted Cruz’s record of keeping his promises. 

“He’s done exactly what he said he was going to do when he ran for United States Senate,” Perkins said of Cruz, “I supported him when he was an underdog against some friends. I believe he’s the right guy to lead this country forward.” 

Perkins also touted Cruz’s deep familiarity with the law as a selling point, emphasizing that the next president could appoint two or three new Supreme Court justices. 

“Leadership is not all about making deals but standing on principle, about respecting the Constitution,” he said. 

“Ted understands the Constitution and the Supreme Court better than any candidate in this race. He has argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and has authored 70 Supreme Court briefs.” 

Likewise leadership in a presidential campaign is not only about the issues, it is about assembling a team who can mount a successful campaign, and in this regard the Ted Cruz campaign miles ahead of the other Republican candidates. 

In Iowa, based on Ted Cruz’s record and commitment to governing according to the Constitution and Judeo-Christian values, more than 150 faith leaders have endorsed Ted Cruz for president.  

Vicki Crawford serves as Faith Outreach Director. Crawford has served Iowa home educators for many years and worked with The Family Leader and a number of conservative political campaigns. In 2010, she was a leader in the successful campaign to oust 3 Iowa State Supreme Court justices who overturned a vote of the people and imposed same-sex marriage on the state of Iowa.  

Pastor Joseph Brown in Washington Iowa founded the 99 Pastors initiative, an independent project to recruit a faith leader for Cruz in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Brown is the pastor of Marion Avenue Baptist Church and along with his wife Charity recruits Iowa clergy to turn out the evangelical vote for Ted Cruz. 

In South Carolina, more than 125 pastors have formally endorsed Cruz, and each of the state’s 46 counties have a faith leader committed to turn out the faith vote for Ted Cruz, specifically among evangelicals. Erik Corcoran, formerly with Rick Perry’s campaign, serves as Faith Outreach Director. “Pastors who have never endorsed a political candidate are getting behind Ted Cruz,” he reports.  

Reverend Mike Gonzalez volunteers as Evangelical Co-Chair and a clergy liaison in South Carolina: he pastors Columbia World Outreach Church and serves as the Vice Chair of the South Carolina Pastors Alliance. Monsignor Ed Lofton, Parish Priest at St. Theresa Catholic Church and State Chaplain of Knights of Columbus 4th degree South Carolina, is among those who have endorsed Cruz. 

Just before the March for Life on Friday, Cruz spoke with more than 30 top Catholic leaders on issues of special interest to the Catholic community. More than 2 dozen rabbis endorsed Cruz during Chanukah.  

“Our faith outreach team started even before the campaign was announced and has been leading a superior grassroots movement from the ground up,” Ted Cruz said. “The top issues for people of faith – religious liberty, economic opportunity, and defending marriage, the unborn, and our Constitution – are issues I have been defending my entire career. People of faith are coalescing around our campaign, proving that their impact will be far-reaching in 2016.”
