Coup in Turkey Leads to Martial Law

Based on history, and biblical text, I have always believed that Turkey’s days of being our ally are numbered.  The wave of jihadism and Islamism that more closely follows Koranic demands has been in Turkey’s future for a while.  In fact, I have believed the Ottoman Empire is going to rise again with Turkey at the helm.  Biblically, I have never agreed that Moscow is Magog.  Based on the placement of the tribes of Magog during biblical times, I have believed Magog is Turkey, and the former southern soviet republics.

That all said, Turkey is in turmoil, after an attempt of a military coup.  Martial law has been imposed, as well as a curfew.  Attacks against police facilities have been reported.

Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported that a military helicopter has attacked Ankara police headquarters. It was not clear if there were any injuries. Other clashes and explosions have also been heard in the city, while video posted to Twitter show military jets flying over the city.

President Erdogan claims the coup is backed by his opponent who has been exiled to the United States, saying “This is not a country that can be run from Pennsylvania.”

Erdogan’s whereabouts are unclear, but he’s reported to have been at his summer house in the south of Turkey.

A total of 2,200 U.S. service members and civilian U.S. Department of Defense employees are currently in Turkey.  1,500 U.S. service members and civilian employees are at Incirlik Air Base, which has been at an elevated force protection level since March, when it also ordered non-essential personnel out.

Turkey has a history of military coups. The last coup was in 1980, when 650,000 people were put under arrest. The country has the second largest army after the U.S. and any NATO country.

In 2012, more than 300 military officers were jailed over an alleged conspiracy to overthrow Erdogan’s government.
