“All Power Corrupts. Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely”

This adage has been around for a very long time. It has a strong basis in truth. It is a warning to people to make sure that the leaders you elect do not have too much control over those they are leading. It explains what has been happening in the United States since we elected to the Presidency people who promise things a President is not empowered to do.

The United States was designed so that no leader could become that powerful. With three separate but equal branches of government there was supposed to be checks to prevent a dictator. But those checks have become impotent. Now it seems that a majority of Americans want a strong man in the Oval office. They are willing to follow anyone who promises to stop global warming or illegal immigration.

History has shown us that giving leaders that kind of power always leads to excesses. Here is the most recent example:

“Mugabe Orders Arrest Of “Rats We Call Athletes” After Zimbabwe Wins No Olympic Medals”

As PMNews Nigeria reports, Mr. Mugabe who is incensed with the team’s performance told the Police Chief to arrest all the team members and detain them.

“We have wasted the country’s money on these rats we call athletes. If you are not ready to sacrifice and win even copper or brass medals (referring the 4th and 5th positions) as our neighbors Botswana did, then why do you go to waste our money” he said.”

What do you suppose he will do with the losing athletes after he has arrested them? Again, referring to his history I would not like to be one of them.
