The Myth of Andalusia

I first began hearing about the so-called Golden Age of Andalusia when that dissembler Faisal Abdul Rauf wanted to build a mosque in the area of Ground Zero in New York. This was one of the talking points he went around with as he promoted Islam as a religion of peace. I actually heard this guy speak at UCLA in 2011 along with another dissembler, UC Riverside professor Reza Aslan. Between the two of them they had a lot of people in that audience buffaloed.

The lie of Andalusia goes like this: Muslim armies liberated southern Spain from the Visigoths and instituted the “Golden Age” when Muslims, Christians and Jews lived in peace and harmony working together to produce a society rich in arts and invention. Unfortunately, it is a lie perpetrated by most if not all of Islam’s apologists and promotes. The truth is that Christians and Jews were reduced to dhimmi class and lived a second class citizens.

Now comes a book that exposes the lies.

If the period of Al Andalus was such a Golden Age for Jews, the famed philosopher and astronomer Maimonides didn’t think so. He fled from Cordoba, where he was born in the latter part of that era to escape his status as a Jew.

But if you want to hear the fable about the Golden Age of Cordoba, be sure and attend one of those inter-faith events they hold all the time. Just be sure to ask them about Maimonides.
