The Source Of My Trumpophobia

(Before It's News)

You know why Donald Trump scared me, from the moment he began to gain serious traction? Brownshirts. I saw the quasi-religious zealotry exhibited by supporters and it scared the ever-loving shit out of me.

It terrifies me to see the decay-rate of our society. In 15 years we’ve gone from a country that pretended to be civilized with one another to a nation of people whose chosen tribe is the only matter-of-import to most Americans. We’re black or white, right or left, straight or gay. There is no middle ground allowed anywhere these days. That is firmly in the lap of the new left.

Through the devolution of our society I knew the day would come when a strongman got the attention – and support – of a great many Americans. Barack Obama was the leftist iteration of this political-wing zeitgeist. Progressives got there before us because Barry was the anti-Bush.

Now, the right wing has their strongman. Strongmen are scary because people abandon their values to be part of the groupthink. One need only read a history book to prove this assertion.

The loyalty of Donald Trump’s supporters (not the hold-you-nose-ers) – Trumpions – were ardent in their support. They’d found their prophet and no amount of intellectual discourse was going to sway them. I have no issue with the single-issue voter, the ‘hold-your-nose-er’, or the ‘just not Hillary’ voter.

Whatever their reason, this cult found a personality to rally around – just like the left. That their chosen personality was a lifelong progressive mattered not. He promised to give them all manner of unicorns & pixie-dust which science, history, and a limited Constitutional republic have proven are not possible.

I’m approaching 7 years of writing and debating on this venerable forum. Through all of these years, there has been a single constant: intellectual integrity.

While I have certainly chosen my words carefully on a few occasions, I have never bitten my tongue for fear of offending sensibilities or being unpopular.

I have thrown out many an idea to create a debate and waited to see what if anyone bites. Then, I engage and hope to end with a circumspect view of whatever matter I’d chosen.

I take great pride in having changed some of my most strongly-held beliefs because they were logically inconsistent with the over-riding view I espouse (example: I no longer support the death penalty because it’s logically inconsistent with my view that the right to life has primacy over all other rights).

I have tried – since the Donald’s nomination became a fait accompli – not to disparage the man in my posts. I have no such compunction against arguing my beliefs in the comments section. I don’t give a filthy rat’s ass if people like it or not. I’m here to engage in intellectual discourse and absolutely noting is off topic.

If you want everyone to agree with you and support your turd, go to Breitbart. They don’t give a shit about intellectual integrity. They’re in Trump’s pocket and they’re unashamed. The Real Revo is not.

This is not a Republican website. This is a site for people to enjoy the many facets of a free society by engaging free minds, free markets, and free people. Speaking only for myself, I don’t care if you’re tired of hearing me bash Donald Trump or not. I will continue to avoid bashing him in my essays, but my comments will always be unfettered, unadulterated, and 100% mine.

If that’s troubling to you, you might just as well find somewhere else to hang out or quit reading anything with my name next to it. When Donald Trump is elected, I will continue to rail against any position or action he takes, with which I happen to disagree. I will not change for you or anyone else.

The idea that people now have a problem with this site because we refuse to bend an intellectual knee to Donald Trump is antithetical to everything we stand for and anathema to the free mind. That people who have faithfully read here for years, would discount our values and our efforts because our legitimate criticisms happen to align with a dislike for Donald Trump is as disheartening as it is re-affirming of my fear of a President Donald J. Trump.
