The second and final Senatorial debate between Senator Marco Rubio (R) and Rep. Patrick Murphy (D) took place at Broward College in Davie, Florida, where Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took center stage and became Murphy’s political attack weapon.

Those watching the debate, including the reporters writing their stories inside the debate hall’s media filing room, concluded that Rep. Patrick Murphy was actually debating Donald Trump, and not Senator Rubio.

It was obvious that Murphy was going to use the Donald Trump line of attack all night.

While the both Rubio and Murphy stuck to their talking points and views on issues like Obamacare and U.S. foreign policy, Murphy anchored all of his answers with trying to tie Rubio to Donald Trump.

Murphy was relentless and tiring whenever he invoked Donald Trump’s name, so much that every time Trump was mention, reporters let out a chuckle, prompting Rubio to state that the “answers to all of his questions is Donald Trump.”

When asked after the debate, Murphy surrogates Democratic Congressmen Ted Deutsch and Ruben Gallego tried to defend Murphy’s Trump line of attack against Rubio by telling reporters that the attacks were valid because Rubio had not openly disavowed and pulled his endorsement of the Republican presidential nominee.

Aside from mentioning Trump almost every time he answered a question, Murphy also jabbed at Rubio over his attendance record in the Senate while he ran for president earlier this year, as well as continuing to press the Democratic narrative of vilifying Rubio as being a “Tea Party Republican.”

Interestingly enough, while he is quick to pull the “Tea Party” card at every political turn, Murphy debate boast about working closely with one of the most Conservative “Tea Party” members of the U.S. Congress, Rep. Ted Yoho (R), can be perceived as hypocritical, at best.

Rubio’s lead over Murphy has shrunk down to a couple points, but considering his statewide name recognition, many believe that Rubio should win re-election to the Senate.
