FreedomWorks today endorsed Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) to serve as the next chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), a group of more than 170 members of the House Republican Conference.

“The RSC needs to get back to its conservative roots. Once the beacon of conservative thought in the House, the RSC’s principles have been diluted,” said FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon. “Rep. Harris is the bold conservative leader who can restore conservative grassroots activists’ faith in the RSC.”

Harris, who has a lifetime 88 percent score on FreedomWorks’ Congressional Scorecard, has received the support of seven founders of the RSC. The founders include Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), both of whom previously chaired the group.

“Now, more than ever, we need to put forward conservative policy ideas to offer a distinction to the American people between failed policy ideas of so-called ‘progressives,’ K Street special interests, and Republicans who are scared of their own shadow,” Brandon said.

“As a physician, Rep. Harris realizes that ObamaCare is dangerous for patients and taxpayers. He has worked in Congress to advance pro-growth economic policies that advance free market principles, and he has worked to restore the constitutional separation of powers by fighting the federal regulatory state. Conservative activists across the nation want Republicans in Congress to fight for them, not against them. Rep. Harris gets that, and that’s why he’s the right person to lead the RSC in the 115th Congress,” Brandon added.

The current chairman of the Republican Study Committee is Rep. Bill Flores (R-Texas). The election for his successor will take place Thursday, November 17.

FreedomWorks aims to educate, build, and mobilize the largest network of activists advocating the principles of smaller government, lower taxes, free markets, personal liberty and the rule of law. For more information, please visit or contact Jason Pye at
