A heart-wrenching photo of a dog sleeping on an abandoned mattress on a street in Detroit has gone viral, after Liz Marie of Auburn Hills, Michigan posted it to Facebook.
Lisa Marie wrote:
‘This picture absolutely breaks my heart, I am literally in tears. Meet Boo, this beautiful boy was left behind with the trash and belongings when the family moved out.’He stayed right by their stuff and never left it, confused and lonely.”
Daily Mail reports, Oct. 21, 2016, that a neighbor saw Boo sleeping on the bare mattress and contacted numerous animal services, but none of the shelters would come and take Boo.
Then Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue founder Devin Oliver heard about Boo. Mike Diesel of the rescue began visiting Boo to build up trust with the dog, spending a total of 11 hours using sausage McMuffins to earn Boo’s trust. Finally, Boo allowed Diesel to take him to a veterinarian, where he was diagnosed with heartworm.
Boo has started treatment and once he’s clear of heartworm he’ll go into foster care until he finds a permanent family.
Oliver told the Daily Dot the shelter doesn’t have a physical location but works with foster families. He said they’ve rescued 75 animals.
Here’s a video of Boo:
Several people have contacted Oliver and Diesel on Detroit Youth & Dog Rescue’s Facebook page, expressing their interest in fostering and adopting Boo.
