You would think that a transsexual journalist of color wearing a Black Panther hat and a t-shirt featuring an upside-down American flag would be invited to sit up front with the pilot. But instead, “Amanda” Stevens claims he was kicked off the flight:
Stevens was preparing to board [his] flight from Albany to Chicago on Wednesday when [he] said a United representative first raised concerns about [his] outfit.
Stevens said [he] was told that [his] shirt, from New York rapper A$AP Rocky’s discontinued PacSun line, made the flight’s pilot ‘uncomfortable’.
Or maybe it wasn’t about his obnoxious shirt after all.
Stevens, who was on [his] way to cover the world championship tournament for online battle game League of Legends, was allowed to board the plane while still wearing the shirt.
But [he] said problems continued when [he] had a ‘tense exchange’ with a flight attendant who asked Stevens to place [his] bag under the seat in front of [him].
Stevens further alleged that the pilot is a “racist” who gave him a “smug look.”
United says the actual reason he was kicked off was because of the altercation he had with a flight attendant, evidently over his refusal to stow his baggage properly. But that shouldn’t prevent Amanda from getting his 15 minutes of fame as a poster child for oppression. He’ll probably get free airline tickets out of it too.
