Yemeni Radar Sites Attacked

(Before It's News)

Recall that earlier this week the US Navy’s Guided Missile Destroyer USS Mason, DDG 87, was attacked in the Red Sea by two missiles fired from the coast of Yemen after, it seems, being painted by Yeman based shore radar. In response to this attack, the Mason fired 3 missiles, two Standard Missile-2s (SM-2s) and one Evolved Seasparrow Missile (ESSM). The ship also used its Australian developed Nulka anti-ship missile decoy system MK 53 Decoy Launching System (Nulka).

According to Bryan Clark, a naval analyst at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments and former aide to retired former-Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert, use of the SM-2s and ESSM missiles is “very significant,” adding:

“It might be the first time the SM-2 used against an actual threat for which it was designed,” Clark said.
“It’s definitely the first time ESSM has been used… This is obviously a huge deal.” USNNI Article

I was hoping that the Yemeni attack on the Mason would not go unanswered. And for once, obama did not disappoint.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at about 4 AM local time, the USS Destroyer Nitze launched cruise missile strikes against three shore based Yemeni radar sites thought to have painted the USS Mason and other vessels in the Red Sea for missile attack.

It is good to see that my nation is not entirely emasculated. And I hope that the targeted radar sites were utterly eliminated. Hopefully Yemen will think twice before trying anything like this again.
