Amber Mariano might only be 21 but she knew what she wanted to do: be a lawmaker and that is exactly what she was elected to do in Pasco County.
Mariano is currently a student at the University of Central Florida and in between writing papers and studying she was out campaigning. On Election Day she defeated Democratic rival Amanda Murphy by 699 votes.
As reported by News4Jax, Mariano said:
I’ve been waiting for that day when I can walk in and see my name on the plaque. That’s when it’s going to really sink in, I think. It’s a dream come true.
Mariano will be a Republican House member for the State of Florida. She said she hopes to focus on water issues. She said:
I really want to work hard to bring some money back to my district to fix all the flooding issues. It’s really bad where I’m from. After a simple rainstorm, we flood out.
