I mentioned on the Election Night thread (the 2nd one) that the NY Times had an election odds link which, when I first saw it, had Trump winning the election.
In the thread I mentioned a particular graph which I found very moving. Here it is (Hillary is Blue: Trump is Red):
Is that not beautiful? I’d love to be able to blow that up and frame it.
Anyway, as we all know, the expectation for the election was that Trump would lose. But he didn’t. And some think that the election results went so far against the expectations of everyone, including the Trump camp’s own polling, that it must be a result of God’s intervention as a result of a barrage of prayer in the 8:00 to 8:30 PM time frame.
Personally I’m happy to give the credit to God. I do know that I prayed that night a number of times that Hillary lose, and that God have mercy on my country by sparing us another 4-8 years of essentially more obama. I’m sure that I wasn’t the only one.
And just to add a bit more to the tale, how else can you explain the actions of Irish betting powerhouse Paddy Power (now Paddy Power Betfair). You may recall that Paddy Power made headlines by paying off bets for Clinton’s winning around October 20, 2016. That bit of miscalculation has cost them $992,528 along with nearly $5 million more for those who bet on Trump. Paddy Power Loses Its Shirt I assume that Paddy Power would not have made those early payouts unless they were certain that a Clinton win was a sure thing. And yet … they lost. Kinda reminds me of the old joke. How do you make God laugh? Tell Him your plans.
