We all know that welfare, by making fathers economically unnecessary, results in greater poverty, while sending more boys into lives of crime and more girls into lives of sexual promiscuity.
The problem is that, while the government was easily able to destroy both rural and urban culture by giving incentives for disability (i.e., not working) and single motherhood (i.e., broken family bonds, poverty, crime, and promiscuity), it’s more difficult to repair the problem. Bad cultural habits that have become ingrained since Johnson’s administration won’t magically vanish if the new administration cuts off the flow of money.
Commenter Pat Dooley adds,
Sounds like we have two Americas. The inner cities and the former industrial heartland of America are “losers”. The coastal elites and the professional classes are the “winners”. Trump's victory will help the losers who voted for him.
America is on the verge of a massive energy surge. Fracking has already saved America from fiscal disaster, but the best is yet to come. America can soon be a major exporter of oil. gas, and, maybe, coal. That is because Trump will implement Sarah Palin's call to “Drill, baby, drill”, Cheap energy, low taxes and reduced regulation will bring back manufacturing jobs to the heartland. The Keystone pipeline alone will create thousands of jobs. The heartland will come back under Trump.
The inner cities present a different problem. There is no nascent work force ready to go to work again in reasonably well paying jobs in manufacturing and energy production. Trump has promised school choice, which is incredibly important, and infrastructure projects that employ locals. Shades of FDR! He has also talked about increasing police presence, and deporting illegal immigrants, including gang members. He seems to be determined to improve their lot.
