Local businesses in Clay and Duval County got together to make and donate Thanksgiving dinner to first responders who are not able to spend the holiday with their families.
Nicole Sanders from TradeMark Title prepared the turkey, ham, pies and sides in her kitchen for several days and she had the following to say why she did it:
My mother taught me from a young age to give back during the holidays. We volunteered at soup kitchens, organized toy drives for the needy and visited seniors at care facilities.
It has been my mission to help others and it is the least I can do for the men and women who keep us safe everyday.
Jessica Vaughn from Keller Williams also helped prepare the food. She is the founder of Serving Jax Heroes, a group that provides baked goods weekly and delivers them each Thursday to local heroes. Locals know the day as #ThankfulThursday.
Mission BBQ also provided some pies and side dishes for the Thanksgiving feast. They believe in giving back and had the following statement about it on their website for first responders and military personnel:
You give. Go above and beyond. Protect our lives, liberty, homes and community. At MISSION BBQ, we’re right there with you helping out with time, service, fundraising and great food to fuel those extra efforts. It’s the right thing to do, and we really believe in these missions below. Thanks.
Other businesses that provided pies and soda were Jeannie Birman from PNC Bank and Steve Ross from Alterra Home Loans.
Clay County Sheriff-Elect Darryl Daniels had the following to say to all first responders and military personnel:
As we celebrate Thanksgiving today for the blessings on our country and families, let us continue to be mindful of the men and women who stand in harms way every day so that we can have the freedoms we enjoy. I pray for our military and public safety personnel who make this happen as well as for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Today some celebrate and some mourn, but we’re all Americans who have so much to be thankful for. God Bless!!
