NBC News was just busted for bias after selectively reporting part of a remark from Reince Priebus about the potential for a registry based on religion in the upcoming White House administration.
To hear NBC describe it, Donald Trump’s administration was mulling a registry based on religion.
But that’s just not the truth.
Here’s the real story: Priebus, on NBC News, was asked by “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd if he could “rule out a registry for Muslims.”
And Priebus, who’s moving from Republican National Committee chief to become Trump’s chief of staff, said, “Look, I’m not going to rule out anything. But we are not going to have a registry based on religion.”
So what did NBC do?
Tweeted a lie.
“The network’s public relations department, however, posted only the first sentence in a pair of tweets to promote the segment.”
Even NBC’s own mainstream colleagues expressed disdain and dismay for the broadcast outlet’s obvious show of bias.
Again, from Newsmax:
“‘This quote is in fact opposite of what PR tweet indicates,’ New York Times political correspondent Maggie Haberman noted in her own tweet of the exchange.
“A senior technology writer for BuzzFeed, Charlie Warzel, lashed out at the tweet as an ‘irresponsible half-quote w/o even a link for context.’”
