George Orwell meant to warn us against totalitarians. Instead, he provided totalitarians with instructions. Especially useful to them was this observation:
To impose their dystopia, progressives have to use their control of the present to destroy America’s past. Where they have achieved the most total control — academia — this is carried out the most ham-fistedly:
A humanities course currently taught at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs teaches that the Founding Fathers were hypocrites, terrorists and money-hungry barons who used hyperbole and fear to rile up the colonists to revolt against England.
The “Resistance and Revolution” class is co-taught by history lecturer Jared Benson and sociology instructor Nicholas Lee, who also suggest that it was Mikhail Gorbachev – not Ronald Reagan — who brought down the collapse of the Soviet Union, and that wealthy CEOs deserve to be in a “moral prison,” among many other assertions.
Calling the Founding Fathers “terrorists,” Benson and Lee voice criticism and cynicism against many of the events leading up to the Revolutionary War, teaching students the founding ideals were “merely a fabrication for a social movement” — a means to an end for the colonist elites who were tired of England’s control and needed the gullible masses to help them break free.
Speaking of terrorists, al Qaeda and ISIS can only dream of inflicting as much damage on this country as leftist academics have done by depriving us of our heritage and eroding our belief in the things we should be most proud of.
They argued the Revolutionary War wasn’t really about freedom. …
Ultimately, the impetus for America was the establishment of an economic system founded on enslavement and racism, according to audio copies of their lectures in September and October provided to The College Fix by a student in the class.
The Bible suggests we judge a tree by its fruit. The fruit of the American Revolution was the freest, wealthiest, healthiest society in human history, until progressives began to poison it. But of course the Bible is as execrable as the Founding Fathers from the point of view of liberal academia.
The nutty professors are too clueless to avoid plunging into self-parody:
Benson also censured the colonists involved in the Boston Tea Party, saying “Why did they dress up like Native Americans? That’s offensive on so many fronts. But they didn’t care about being offensive.”
Imagine the uncomprehending stare you would receive if you told anyone in the 18th century that the Boston Tea Party was a bad thing because it was offensive to Indians.
Lee also suggests slavery still exists today – in the form of capitalism.
A synonym for capitalism is “economic freedom.” Back we come to Orwell: Freedom Is Slavery.
When they have finished destroying America, what sort of society will progressives replace it with? This offers a clue:
While the professors are extremely critical of the founding of our country, they are quick to defend social movements such as Black Lives Matter and the Black Power Movement.
“Black power at this point in time was not anti-white, was not reverse racism or some other bull**** that we are conditioned to believe,” Benson said. “It was about empowerment for people that had been disempowered or subjugated by an oppressor.”
“Empowerment” of ultra-left, racist maniacs who hate America, its core population, and rule of law is good; ordered liberty is bad. Students who disagree will pay a price in terms of GPA.
