Lawyers in Utah announced they’ll defend refugees for free who say they’ve been harassed or intimidated by any effects of the incoming Donald Trump administration.
Specifically, Trump’s vowed to crack down on the numbers of illegal immigrants and refugees in America. The Refugee Justice League of Utah announced it has 50 lawyers at the ready to fight for refugees’ civil rights, for free.
From the Associated Press:
“Utah has more than 40,000 Muslim refugees and the establishment of the group of lawyers is a relief for them …
“The lawyers’ group also plans to mount legal challenges to any possible efforts to establish a registry of refugees.”
Again, from AP:
“Many Utah residents feel a connection with refugees because the state was founded by Mormon pioneers who crossed the country looking for a safe place to settle and practice their religious beliefs without interference, said trial attorney Brad Parker, also a co-founder of the group of lawyers.”
The attorneys say they’ll investigate complaints from imams and others with knowledge of the plights of refugees.
