Leave it to Angela Merkel. Faced with a storm of criticism over her immigration policies as the body count rises, she has used the occasion of a CDU meeting in Essen to announce that she wants to ban the burka (wherever legally possible). She also pledges she will not repeat the mistakes of last year (2015). That’s one hell of a campaign tactic.
At this point, that’s about as meaningful as Hitler banning the Red Army from drinking vodka.
