Common Ground Between Kerry and Tillerson
Of all the moonbattery spewed by Secretary of State Hanoi John Kerry, possibly the most alarming was his declaration earlier this year that regulating the hydrofluorocarbons used in air conditioners and refrigerators, alleged by some to exacerbate the imaginary global warming crisis, is of “equal importance” to dealing with the Islamic State and Muslim terrorism. This demonstrated inappropriate priorities at best, and mental issues if he actually believes his own words.
Liberals have been tearing at their hair over Kerry’s presumptive successor Rex Tillerson, because he is CEO of ExxonMobil and because he has done business with Putin. However, we may not be out of the woods yet when it comes to climate kookiness.
Tillerson, from less than 2 months ago:
At ExxonMobil, we share the view that the risks of climate change are serious and warrant thoughtful action. Addressing these risks requires broad-based, practical solutions around the world. Importantly, as a result of the Paris agreement, both developed and developing countries are now working together to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, while recognizing differing national responsibilities, capacities and circumstances. In our industry, the best hope for the future is to enable and encourage long-term investments in both proven and new technologies, while supporting effective policies.
A policy that would be effective at preventing climate fluctuation has yet to be discovered. But there is a policy that would be effective at redistributing wealth and raising the cost of living, even if it would have no perceptible effect on the weather:
We have long supported a carbon tax as the best policy of those being considered. Replacing the hodge-podge of current, largely ineffective regulations with a revenue-neutral carbon tax would ensure a uniform and predictable cost of carbon across the economy. It would allow market forces to drive solutions. It would maximize transparency, reduce administrative complexity, promote global participation and easily adjust to future developments in our understanding of climate science as well as the policy consequences of these actions.
“Global participation” in this stealth socialism is something Kerry has tried to advance. Let’s hope Tillerson will have other priorities.
