This shows how effective such watchlists are: not at all. Western authorities are content to put a jihadi’s name on a list, and think that thereby they have covered the problem. They haven’t. It is time to get tougher, or the situation is going go get far, far worse in Europe, as well as in America.

German authorities knew of 14 different identities used by the man who drove a truck into a Berlin Christmas market, a police chief has revealed.

Anis Amri ploughed into a crowd of shoppers at a market in the German capital on 19 December, killing 12 people and injuring dozens of others.

He was killed in a shootout with Italian police in Milan four days later.

The 24-year-old Tunisian arrived in Germany in mid-2015 and authorities later put him on a terror watchlist of potentially violent Islamic extremists.

He was kept under covert surveillance for six months in 2016 before the operation was halted….
