January 1979: “Too much heaven” by The Bee Gees was the #1 song this week

It was many years ago this week and The Bee Gees were back at the #1 position with “Too much heaven”.   It came about a year after the smashing success of “Saturday Night Fever” and the first release from the upcoming “Spirits having flown” LP.

The B-side was “Rest your love on me“, a country ballad that was also recorded by Olivia Newton John & Andy Gibb.    The song cracked country radio at a time when disco dominated the pop charts.

“Too much heaven” was the 4th of 6 consecutive #1 songs for the group.  In other words, the brothers Gibb were the best selling act in the world.
