Peak PC Insanity: The American Indian Word for Woman Now Deemed "Offensive"
You may remember the term “squaw”.
It’s a Narragansett (American Indian) term for “woman” dating back to at least the 17th century. Algonquian dialects also employed the word.
But now, your PC betters have deemed the term Offensive.
Papa B alerts us to a game alert he received in the popular social word game Words With Friends:
Using “define:squaw” on Google confirms the offense.
Of course, this poses a problem for the site of the 1960 Winter Olympic Games, which will presumably have to rethink its brand identity.
They better get started soon on all of the resort maps, for starters.
I mean, the “back side of Squaw”?
Outrageous.

I am part Indian. I don’t feel the need for Indian peoples to not be proud of the name and heritage.
Proud people do not concern themselves with labels.
If a group of people have a shared heritage to be proud of and know the words used to describe them by others brings to minds positive images, what does it matter what we are called?
When social groups constantly change their own designated group name to run from a stereotype, then live up to the stereotype, they have defeated their own purpose.
The stereotype for Indians is a good one and one to take pride in. Not pride designated by a day or week or month, or some empty slogan. Pride that is so real it doesn’t need to be spoken.
Call me Indian if you please. Call me redskin. Call me what you will as long as people know what genetics it implies. No matter what word you use, it brings a proud dignified desirable people to mind.
Fuck political correctness, and do it publicly.
