DOZENS al-Qaeda militants have been slaughtered in a mass raid as part of Donald Trump’s crackdown on terrorists.

US commandos killed 40 of the terrorists in a US ground operation in Yemen.The US Navy’s SEAL Team 6, which killed Osama bin Laden, struck the jihadi base in the first counter-terrorism operation approved by President Trump since he took the Oval Office.

Three of the dead jihadis are reported to be leaders of the terror group.

However, US officials confirmed one soldier was killed in during the daring raid, while there are reports of at many as 16 civilian casualties.

The SEALs srtuck the base in the war-torn nation ravaged by civil war as down broke.

According to reports, a V-22 Osprey double-blade aircraft – which was flown in to evacuate the troopers – was shot down, leaving the pilot wounded.

A total if three were wounded from the US troops and one was killed.

The US military has not confirmed the reports civilians were killed during the raid.General Joseph Votel, the head of the Pentagon’s Central Command, said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our elite service members.

“The sacrifices are very profound in our fight against terrorists who threaten innocent peoples across the globe.”

Last year, al-Qaeda promised there would be “thousands” of 9/11 style attacks sweeping the world.

Following the raid, US spooks were given “information that will likely provide insight into the planning of future terror plots”, it was claimed.
