Donald Trump hit back hard at the pampered and sheltered Hollywood bigwigs who used their Golden Globes’ televised platform to slam the president-elect as cruel, and call for widespread uprising against his leadership.

Meryl Streep, for example, said Trump’s rhetoric and behavior has “sank its hooks in my heart” and accused him of having an “instinct to humiliate.” She also asked that a “principled press” call out Trump “for every outrage.”

Her comments came in context of bringing up an old story of Trump supposedly mocking a disabled journalist – a story that Trump has refuted numerous times and said was a matter of the media’s biased, selective editing and reporting.

But the audience reaction?

Those sitting and listening gave her resounding applause. And fellow actor Chris Pine described Streep’s speech as the “best message” of the evening.

Trump’s response was classic – on Twitter and blunt.

In separate tweets on Monday, he wrote: “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actreesses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a …”

And then he followed with this: “Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never ‘mocked’ a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him …”

And then this: “‘groveling’ when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”

Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, meanwhile, on Fox News on Monday morning said she’d welcome Streep to continue her reach-out to the disabled and have a discussion about the disabled white male who was brutally tortured and beaten by the four black men and women in Chicago just recently, and whose assault was captured on video and posted to social media.

Streep was hardly the only Hollywood celebrity to use the televised awards ceremony to attack Trump.

From Fox News:

“Just minutes into the show, host Jimmy Fallon used his time on stage to take digs at Trump after he was forced to improvise for the first few minutes of the show due to a broken teleprompter.

“Once his script was up and running, Fallon called the Golden Globes ‘one of the few places left where America still honors the popular vote.’ That, though, isn’t quite true. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a collection of 85 members, has its own methods of selecting winners.

“Fallon often used the President-elect as a punchline, even comparing him to belligerent and cruel “Games of Thrones” King Joffrey.”
