An imam is warning the Muslim world to tread carefully where cartoons are concerned, saying the popular “Sponge Bob” show seen around the world morphs boys into girls and girls into boys by instilling the message it’s OK for females to be “butch” and fine for males to be “sissies,” a video of his address revealed.
His goal with making the remarks?
To point out what he perceives are the pro-homosexuality elements of the cartoon.
And in so doing, he seems to suggest the cartoon ought not to be on the list of approved viewing for followers of Islam.
In the video, posted at Israel National News, he says of the “Sponge Bob” character and cartoon:
“The problem is that although this [Sponge Bob] boy is a boy, during the series, his movements are the movements of a girl. Sometimes he wears girls’ clothes, he moves like a girl and he has a girl’s eyelashes. He is always wimpish, always bashful, always crying and scared. And who is the strong character in the series? Sandy, the girl who defends him. She is butch, she knows karate.
“You know that this is the most famous cartoon character today, even among our children in the Gulf. All our children are familiar with it. It appears on their schoolbags, on their notebooks and on their clothes. The whole world has turned Sponge Bob.
“The problem is that through this series, they are instilling the message that boys are wimps, sissies and girlish, whereas girls are butch, strong and masculine.
“Just imagine our children ten years down the line. What will happen is they emulate this character? People, I am not exaggerating. I am not blowing this up. I have read it and seen it with my very eyes. It is inconveivable for our children to see such things.
“Brothers, there is homosexuality in cartoons. The very least thing they show children is a boy kissing a girl. That’s the most trivial thing they see today in series and cartoons. That’s the very least they see today, not to mention much worse things.
“Jews are behind mmost of the American companies today. They work diligently and spend billions in order to change the thinking of children worldwide.
Christian groups in America have actually been warning for years about the gay themes that have slowly been woven into childrens’ shows and cartoons.
But the difference between the Muslim cleric’s warning and the similar headsup from Christians: The cleric’s warning could very well lead to Sharia-like punishments for those who continue to watch “Sponge Bob.”
The warnings from Christian groups? They’re more advisements to parents, to equip them with the tools they need to make their own decisions for their children.
