(Before It's News)

Three times he relinquished absolute power.

George Washington is the face on the one-dollar bill and – these days – the smiling face of Presidents’ Day sales. Most of us know he was the first president of the United States. But why is that important? What else do we know about him?

George Washington was the man who established the American republic. He led the revolutionary army against the British Empire, he served as the first president, and most importantly he stepped down from power.

George Washington was a great man who understood that character is more important than power. I think my admiration for the men of our history is the primary driver behind my disapproval of the political opportunists who run our country…to include Donald Trump. This thirst for power over others is something I have always despised. I fought against it as a young man, fought against it as a cop, and have been in innumerable fisticuffs as a result of my hatred of others pushing people around.

There are men who wield power with great caution and abnegation, but none are wont to wade into the cesspool we’ve allowed to invade our public space.
