Trump’s Obamacare Replacement Bill Gets Conservative Bolstering

Republicans in Congress have finally put forth a replacement for Obamacare, but their American Health Care Act is nothing more than a Obamcare-lite quick fix.

Democrats, are calling the bill Trumpcare, but in reality, the bill should be named Ryancare.

This bill was penned by Speaker Ryan and GOP leadership, but conservatives in the House are not all that keen on signing on to a bill that isn’t much different than Obamacare.

Even though the American Health Care Act is significantly better than the Affordable Care Act, its just not the kind of repeal and replace bill that most Americans expected.

PresidentTrump is now saying that he will push the legislation, but only after changes and additions are made to the bill.

Freshman Rep. Matt Gaetz, who is arguably one of the most conservative members of the Florida Congressional delegation, met with the Shark Tank in Washington, D.C. to discuss the upcoming healthcare vote in the House.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R)

Gaetz said that he would not vote for the original replacement bill in question until changes were made to make the bill “more conservative.”

Gaetz also said that “more conservative members of the budget committee” passed four motions to bolster the healthcare bill so that it would pass the conservative sniff test.

I am supportive of changes that will make this legislation more conservative. The bill as originally filed I would not have voted for and it would not have passed the budget committee in that form.

According to Gaetz, amendments to improve the healthcare act to a free market-driven and state-based bill, are being drafted, and have already received President Trump’s blessings.

I am told that amendments are being drafted, that President Trump supports, and that conservatives in the House support that will make this more of a free market, state-based delivery of healthcare, rather than continuing to have the federal government excessively entangled in it.

Gaetz added, “if we got legislation before us that repeals Obamacare, that gets people out of Medicaid, that empowers states, and that is significant entitlement reform,” he would vote in favor of the bill.
