Cruz Introduced El Chapo Act

One of President Trump’s campaign promises was to build a wall in order to tackle illegal immigration and to have Mexico pay for it. Well, it seems Senator Ted Cruz has found the answer to that.

Senator Cruz has introduced the Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order Act, most known as the El Chapo Act, which argues that assets seized from drug lords such as “el Chapo” should be used to build the wall along the U.S./Mexico border. Specifically, the United States government is seeking $14 billion from el Chapo.

On Tuesday, Senator Cruz commented on the bill by explaining that “Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons and individuals across our southern border.”

This comes at a time when Republicans fear that a debate over funding will lead to a government shutdown when Democrats largely oppose the building of a wall. But, the introduction of this legislation will definitely make for a yuge debate as the battle for combating illegal immigration to the United States continues.
