It is getting tough to be a tomboy in progressive America

This is going to get complicated really fast so try to keep up.

Here is a story about a woman who has a 7 year old daughter. Her daughter is a tomboy. It is as simple as that.

The daughter is genetically a girl. She has all the girl parts down there. She is a girl in every way and she feels like a girl. She knows she is a girl and wants to be referred to as a girl.

The thing is she likes boy-stuff. Her tastes lean toward snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails rather than sugar and spice and everything nice. She is a tomboy.

We all knew tomboys when we grew up. They were common. Remember Scout Finch (above) from To Kill a Mockingbird? Yep, Scout was a standard, garden variety tomboy and we never gave it a second thought.

Of course this is 2017 so this cannot stand. This little girl gets a lot of questions as to whether or not she is a transgendered boy. “Do you want to be referred to as a boy?”

Her mother dutifully responds to these queries with, “no, she is a girl she is just a tomboy”. Many people don’t seem to want to accept that. School administrators get involved. “Clearly this little boy is gender confused. He was born a genetic girl but is really a boy.”

“No”, mom says, “she is a girl”. People can’t accept that. “Is it healthy for this transgendered boy to believe he is a girl?” “Are his parents doing him a disservice?” “Is he mentally ill to believe he is a girl?”

Evidently acceptance doesn’t extend to simple, everyday tomboys.
