(Before It's News)

Hat tip The College Fix

It’s become an all too familiar pattern especially on college campuses. Someone reports being the victim of a hate crime- either a physical or verbal assault of the recipient of a racist message. An investigation is launched costing man hours, resources, and money. If it’s a college campus, the social fabric of the institution is turned upside down with protests and demands. Then it is all determined to be a hoax designed to gain sympathy for a cause. Such was the case at St Olaf College in Minnesota, where a black female student reported a racist note being left on her car. As it turns out, she was the culprit.

Another unfortunate aspect of this is that it casts doubt on true reports of racism or bias.Who knows what to believe anymore? This past week, I wrote sympathetically when Baltimore Orioles’ outfielder Adam Jones reported that fans in Boston’s Fenway Park called him the n-word and threw a bag of peanuts at him. Yet, some like ex-Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling disbelieved Jones. I still do believe him.

These people who would commit these hoaxes need to learn that they are doing a disservice to all.
