Bernie Sanders Attempts to Impose Religious Test on Nominees

From Article 6 of the U.S. Constitution:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

As a U.S. Senator, Bernie Sanders must have taken such an oath, hard as it is to imagine him placing his hand on the Bible without it bursting into flames. Yet on Wednesday he attempted to impose a religious test on Russell Vought, nominee for deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, by repeatedly citing Vought’s Christian beliefs as a disqualification during a confirmation hearing:

Sanders took issue with a piece Vought wrote in January 2016 about a fight at the nominee’s alma mater, Wheaton College. The Christian school had fired a political-science professor, Larycia Hawkins, for a Facebook post intended to express solidarity with Muslims. Vought disagreed with Hawkins’s post and defended the school in an article for the conservative website The Resurgent. During the hearing, Sanders repeatedly quoted one passage that he found particularly objectionable:

Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ his Son, and they stand condemned.

It has been standard Christian belief for 2,000 years that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ, as explicitly stated in the Bible (e.g., John 3:18, John 14:6, Luke 10:16). However, Sanders never got the memo:

“In my view, the statement made by Mr. Vought is indefensible, it is hateful, it is Islamophobic, and it is an insult to over a billion Muslims throughout the world,” Sanders told the committee during his introductory remarks. “This country, since its inception, has struggled, sometimes with great pain, to overcome discrimination of all forms … we must not go backwards.”

Discrimination against Christians is of course another matter. Sanders whole-heartedly endorses it, on the grounds that basic Christian beliefs are “Islamophobic.”

Sanders openly and aggressively sided with Islam against Christianity and the U.S. Constitution that he is sworn to uphold. Moonbats do not simply have a deficient ideology. They are the enemy — not a worthy enemy, but one we have to fight every day of our lives, because the consequences of vermin like Bernie Sanders emerging victorious are unthinkable.
