Friday Night at the Movies

It is so good to have made it through another tumultuous week and finally have the weekend underway. Welcome to the Friday Night Movie, the longest running and most anticipated publication of the week. Understandably so. Only the finest, rarest or worst films you have ever seen are featured here. Many times the movie selection falls into two of the three categories mentioned. Such is the case with our featured presentation tonight.

I gather from the opening credits that this is to be considered a Daniel Baldwin movie. I suppose he is cast in the leading role. This movie features FAR greater talent than Daniel Baldwin. Perhaps the greatest Black Superhero of all time, Mr. Fred Williamson is in this movie. That’s not all. This movie features one of the greatest talents in the entertainment world. He is none other than the Father of Hardcore Pro Wrestling, the wild man from the Double Cross Ranch in Amarillo, Texas… Mister Terry Funk.

There are few men in this world who can instantly strike fear in me without doing anything other than appearing before my eyes. Terry Funk and Dory Funk Jr. are two such men. It’s been that way since I was a kid in the Jacksonville Coliseum on a Thursday Night. When the Funks were in the building, somebody was going to bleed. Terry Funk will flat scare the shit out of you and Dory Jr. just intimidates the shit out of you. I’ve never seen a man his age in such good physical condition as Dory Funk Junior. Anywhere he goes there is no man in his presence who believes themselves to be an Alpha Male. Dory Junior is just that kind of quiet bad ass. He won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Title in 1969. He is still training the WWE Superstars of tomorrow on his Pro Wrestling Conservatory in Ocala, Florida every single day. He is considered to be the most proficient technical wrestler alive today.

Terry Funk won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on 1975. He was always far more outlandish than his Brother, Dory Jr. Terry was a wide-open wild man. Whereas Dory Jr. was much more quiet and reserved, living a very clean and healthy lifestyle Terry was pretty much the opposite. Consequently, Terry has been told by his Doctors to never step into a wrestling ring ever again, even if the only thing he’s going to do is grab a microphone and talk.

Dory Funk Senior, Junior and Terry Funk have given their lives to the entertainment industry through the medium of Pro Wrestling. They have entertained people all over the world. All of their shows were live. They only had one chance to get it right. There were no -re-takes. They have more fans all over the world than all the other actors in this movie combined. Every childhood Saturday I was in front of the television at Noon to see what was to be seen of the Funks and many others, as presented by Gordon Solie. Tonight I am looking forward to Terry Funk as “Morgan”, doing what he does best… being one bad Hombre. I never knew he was in this movie until I started previewing it.

Interesting bit of Real Revo Friday Night at the Movies Pro Wrestling related Trivia. In the opening scene of this movie you will see a firefight in a small Mexican town. Study the Church and the surrounding buildings and this movie set will look familiar to those of you who have been here a while and it should. It is the movie set upon which the plot of a classic Friday Night Movie here was played out. The name of the town in that movie was Sangre de Dios and the name of that movie was Wrestlemaniac starring Rey Misterio Sr. It stands as one of the worst movies I have ever seen and/or presented here.
