VOTE on mega-mosque project in Prince William County, Virginia

A hearing on yet another mega-mosque project in America is scheduled in Prince William County, Virginia for 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 27 at the James J. McCourt Building.

A proposed mega-mosque on a 14-acre plot in a protected zone has sparked heated debate. Clearly the proposed facility is not appropriate in the neighborhood of ­single-family homes, which lies within an “80,000-acre swath created in 1998 to preserve Prince William’s remaining rural areas from suburbanization” – but not islamization?

The Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) mega mosque proposes to erect a four story building with 22,400 square feet on a 14 acre plot. In this rural section of Prince William County, a bedroom community for Washington, DC, most lots that size accommodate one single-family home.

But the hearing has local and national significance.

The planning commission Chairman Corey Stewart was defeated this month in the Republican
primary for Governor. It was a close race but Stewart admitted to voters privately that he was feeling forced to vote for the massive mosque project because of a rumored Justice Department RLUIPA lawsuit and because the mosque also threatened to sue the county. This was a factor in his defeat.

Stewart was a former chairman of the Trump campaign in Virginia who was fired after conflicts with the Trump headquarters in the last month of the campaign.

The Trump Justice Department has continued the Obama policy of threatening lawsuits against counties which reject mosque proposals because they did not meet community land-use standards.

Most employees in the Civil Rights division at DOJ are Obama appointees “held-over” by the Trump White House. Only a handful of actually Trump appointees are at Justice and other federal agencies.

“It’s business as usual for the Obama people still running the Justice Department,” said James Lafferty, chairman of the Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force (VAST) and a new group Christians Against Radical Islam (CARI). “President Trump and Attorney General Sessions are good, well-meaning people but they have no troops down in the trenches of government to implement the policies America voted for last November.

“Of course, easily-intimidated politicians cling to the threat of a lawsuit as cover for their pro-mosque vote and citizens’ wishes and local land use regulations get ignored.”

The ADAMS center started as a branch of the infamous Dar A Hijrah mosque in Falls Church, VA. It now has several branches of its own throughout Northern Virginia.

According to a report by the Clarion Project, the Herndon office of ADAMS was raided in March, 2002 by federal agents as part of a terrorism investigation into the Safa Group, a network of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.

“On the land-use arguments alone, the mosque proposal should be rejected,” Lafferty said. “Too big a building on too little space. The Prince William planners should demonstrate some courage and stop this jihadist mega-mosque right now.”

Call the Prince William County Planning Commission (703-792- 7615) and tell Chairman Stewart to vote no on the big mosque. And call U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions (202-514- 2000) and tell him Mr. Trump and he need to “clean house” down in the Civil Rights division of DOJ. You might want to remind him, elections do have consequences.
