Totalitarian movements always eat their own, because no one can ever achieve absolute ideological purity. Richard Dawkins became a hero on the left by making a career out of bitterly denouncing religion. But then they realized that Dawkins hates all religions, not only Christianity, but also Islam:

Criticizing Islam cannot be forgiven, no matter how many times you have denounced Christianity. Ever since 9/11, Islam has been sacred to liberals; it becomes more sacred with each new terrorist atrocity against the West. Muslims have achieved the coveted status of the marginalized.

Speaking of being marginalized, becoming an unperson for committing thought crimes isn’t just for conservatives anymore.
