De Blasio’s NYC: FDNY Hires Muslim Son of Hard Core Convicted Jihadist
This is as aggravating as it is troubling. This week we learned that the bike path truck jihadi worshiped at a mosque that had been monitored by the New York City Police Department before Mayor Bill de Blasio dismantled that surveillance program at the behest of CAIR. Now, in the furtherance of progressive political correctness, de Blasio’s FDNY has hired Omar Ahmed Sattar, the son of Ahmed Abdel Sattar, a convicted Jihadist associate of “Blind Sheik” Omar Abdel-Rahman.
Make no mistake: Sattar the elder is not some innocent Muslim caught up in a wave of “islamophobia.” He was a co-defendant in the trial of radical lawyer Lynne Stewart. Stewart used the cloak of her “lawyer privileges” to circumvent prison safeguards restricting the Blind Sheik’s ability to communicate with anyone to protect “against the risk of death or serious bodily injury that might otherwise result” (see U.S. v Sattar, et al. (S.D.N.Y. 2002)) after the Sheik’s conviction for conspiracy in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Sattar, a paralegal for Stewart during the 1993 bombing trial, was a leader of the Egyptian “Islamic Group” (a/k/a “Gama’a al-Islamiyya“. Sattar’s role as an active jihadist cannot be overlooked. Quoting directly from the indictment:
Defendant AHMED ABDEL SATTAR, a/k/a “Abu Omar,” a/k/a “Dr. Ahmed,” is an active IG leader and surrogate for Sheikh Abdel Rahman. SATTAR is a vital link between the incarcerated Sheikh Abdel Rahman and the world-wide IG membership. More specifically, SATTAR, through his frequent telephonic contact with IG leaders around the world, operates from New York City as a communications center for IG. In this capacity, SATTAR provides material support and resources to IG by coordinating the communication and dissemination of information relating to IG activities. In furtherance of the goals of IG, SATTAR performs this communications role by utilizing a variety of methods, including the following (1) relaying messages between IG leaders abroad and the imprisoned Sheikh Abdel Rahman through visits and telephone calls by Sheikh Abdel Rahman’s interpreter and attorneys; (2) arranging and participating in three-way telephone calls connecting IG leaders around the world with one another to facilitate discussion and coordination of IG activities; and (3) obtaining messages and information from one IG leader and conveying such messages and information to other IG leaders and membership located in nations around the world.
In his capacity as a leader of the “Islamic Group,” and using his cover as Stewart’s paralegal, Sattar relayed a fatwa in the Blind Sheik’s name that called on Muslims everywhere “to fight the Jews and to kill them wherever they are.”
Lest we be accused of visiting the sins of the father upon the son, Satter the younger, then a college student, wrote a letter to the court seeking leniency for his father: “I know that he did not commit any crimes or plan to. I feel that an injustice has been done.” Dad was sentenced to serve 24 years at the Federal Prison in Marion, Illinois for the crimes his son knew he did not commit.
Ahmed Abdel Sattar was convicted of calling for the killing of Jews. Omar Amed Sattar called Ahmed’s calling for the killing of Jews “just views.” Omar reveres Muhammad who personally decapitated 600-900 unarmed Jews. Now Sattar the younger is a rookie firefighter in the very department that lost 343 members in the jihad attack of September 11, 2001. One of Sattar’s classmates in the graduating FDNY class is the son of one of those 343 jihad victims.
One wonders, since Omar Ahmed Sattar wrote that letter seeking leniency for his jihadi father, has he accepted that his father is an adherent of jihadi ideology? Has Sattar the younger denounced his father’s savage ideology? Has he even accepted that his father is a jihadist? Did the FDNY background investigation of Sattar the younger reveal his father is a convicted jihadist? (In the following report, an FDNY spokesperson declined to comment on that point.) But even if the FDNY did make that connection, would they be allowed to question firefighter applicant Sattar about his Muslim beliefs in Bill de Blasio’s New York City?
From The New York Post:
The 279 firefighters who graduated from the FDNY Academy last month include the son of a firefighter killed on 9/11 — and the son of a terrorist.
Rookie firefighter Omar Ahmed Sattar, 30, is the eldest son of Ahmed Abdel Sattar, who was convicted in 2005 of “soliciting crimes of violence” and conspiracy to murder Jews.
The elder Sattar, now 58, was a seemingly mild-mannered postal-service worker raising his family in Staten Island. Behind his peaceful facade, the court found, he was an Islamist extremist who used his home as a communications hub to further the schemes of Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, the blind Muslim cleric who masterminded the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six, as well as failed plots to blow up other New York City buildings and tunnels.
Ahmed Sattar, a k a Abu Omar and Dr. Ahmed, was tried along with Rahman’s radical defense lawyer, Lynne Stewart, and another accused terrorist, Mohammed Yousry.

In a letter to the sentencing judge, Omar, then an 18-year-old student at the College of Staten Island, begged for leniency.
“I know that he did not commit any crimes or plan to. I feel that an injustice has been done. My father is a man of honesty and kindness, he wouldn’t attempt to hurt any one or even think about it,” Omar wrote.
“Yes, he has views, like so many people, but his views were just that and nothing more.”
Omar, who has two younger brothers and a sister, said his father raised his kids well.
“Most importantly, he wanted us to be good children and then grow up to be better adults,” he wrote. “I will forever hold his lessons in my heart, and I thank god every day for the father I have.”
Manhattan federal Judge John Koeltl sentenced Ahmed Sattar to 24 years in prison. He is serving time in the federal penitentiary in Marion, Ill., which once held Mafia godfather John Gotti.

Also graduating that day was John Palombo, whose firefighter dad, Frank, was killed in the World Trade Center terror attacks that claimed 343 Bravest on Sept. 11, 2001. Last year, John’s brother Thomas also joined the FDNY.
The department assigned Sattar to Engine Co. 282 in Borough Park, a heavily Orthodox Jewish neighborhood.
An FDNY spokesman would not say whether the department knew of the elder Sattar’s criminal record when it hired the son.
