1944: Glenn Miller's plane lost over English Channel
1944 was a very tough year, from Europe to the Pacific, to D-Day, the Battle of The Bulge and the loss of Glenn Miller in December.
Miller was travelling to Paris for a Christmas concert and his plane was lost over the English Channel.
He was probably the biggest musical act in the US. His music was heard all over and brought a touch of home for thousands of GI’s serving in Europe and elsewhere.
His plane was never found and he is still listed as MIA.
