Amazon Pays No Federal Taxes in 2017

When Amazon’s Jeff Bezos uses his Washington Post to push leftist politics, it is not because he wants to pay higher taxes. He just wants you to pay higher taxes. As for Amazon, it doesn’t pay taxes:

Bezos is the richest person in the world, with a personal net worth of $108 billion. In 2017, Bezos’ company, the internet retail giant Amazon, reportedly took in $5.6 billion in U.S. profits.

So, how much did Amazon pay in income tax on that bounty? Hang on, we’re getting some news…what? What’s this? Amazon effectively paid zero dollars in federal income taxes in 2017?

In part, Amazon manages this by keeping its global headquarters not in Seattle, but in Luxembourg. In part, it is benefitting massively from tax reform:

Amazon is projecting a $789 million windfall from Republicans’ tax bill, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, which may have factored into its reason for withholding taxes this year.

But don’t expect to read a positive word about Republicans in WaPo, which bashes Trump so monotonously that its featured stories all sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher. A left-liberal pose must be maintained. Otherwise people might become enraged when they learn things like this:

In January, a study found that more than one in 10 Amazon employees in Ohio rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to buy groceries. And SNAP is… a government program… funded by… tax revenue.

Maybe we aren’t getting such great deals from Amazon after all, if we are helping pay Bezos’ workers every April 15.

Once again, we see that liberal politics is a fraud, employed by the cynical to exploit the gullible. Bezos is a caricature of the capitalist exploiter his own ideology demonizes. But most of his fellow libs don’t resent it, because he owns the Compost and pledges $millions to destroy the sanctity of marriage.
