As Student Walkouts Rage, Second Amendment Foundation Sees Massive Spike in Memberships for 18-20 Year Olds

For every action there’s a reaction. Just ask the Second Amendment Foundation, whose youth membership has surged 1,200% in reaction to recent attacks on the Second Amendment.

“We normally don’t get that many members or donors in that age group since the gun rights movement typically trends toward older Americans,” SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb said on the group’s website. “But the 18- to 20-year-olds have never been specifically targeted before, and they are obviously alarmed.”

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), which advocates for responsible, lawful gun ownership, claims the membership spike among 18- to 20-year-olds occurred without any targeted marketing.

“It’s important to note that this interest surge has been organic on the Internet,” Gottlieb said. “SAF did nothing special to make it happen. They have really done this on their own, finding us on the Internet and following up.”

The mainstream media and liberals have been rabidly pushing gun control and calling for businesses to cut ties with the National Rifle Association (NRA), but it bears noting that no mass shooter in American history has ever been a member of the NRA. Nor has there ever been a shooting at an NRA gathering even though everyone has a gun.

The Parkland, Florida school shooting has been the catalyst for a nationwide crackdown on lawful gun ownership, but Second Amendment advocates point out that gun-control laws are not the answer. Why? Because criminals don’t care about laws.

Last week, Dick’s Sporting Goods raised the minimum age requirement to buy a long gun to 21 from 18. Two employees quit in protest and several age discrimination lawsuits have since been filed against the company.

If the Broward Country Sheriff’s Office and the FBI had not ignored multiple credible tips alerting them that Nikolas Cruz was homicidal, mentally disturbed, and had repeatedly threatened to shoot up his school, that tragedy could have been avoided.

Whether you’re a gun advocate or not, the right to bear arms in self-defense is a civil liberty guaranteed by the United States Constitution. In fact, it’s considered so important that it’s the *2nd* Amendment, right behind the 1st (most important) Amendment, which is the right to free speech.

Where were all the anti-gun protests during the mass shootings that occurred under Barack Obama? Remember the 2009 Virginia Tech massacre? What about the 2012 Sandy Hook shootings?
