As a result of yesterday’s FIU bridge collapse, there’s a rush to figure out what happened and why it wasn’t avoided. Florida Governor Rick Scott is pledging to thoroughly investigate what caused the collapse that has killed several people, and Senator Marco Rubio is joining in support.

At a news conference yesterday, Governor Scott commented that “We will hold anybody accountable if anybody has done anything wrong.” He was also on twitter, updating followers on the people he was talking to and steps he was taking in order to properly respond to the tragedy.

Senator Marco Rubio added that “we deserve to know, and the public deserves to know, and the families of those who have been hurt and who lost their lives deserve to know what went wrong.” And he explained that “an exhaustive review that will give details on an engineering and scientific level as to what the errors were, and what led to this catastrophic collapse.“

In addition, Senator Bill Nelson also tweeted out his condolences to the family and friends of those lost in the collapse.

The bridge was being constructed in part with funds from a TIGER grant that provided $11.4 million that were awarded to the university with the goal of linking the school to the surrounding city.
