FreedomWorks Responds to Speaker Paul Ryan’s Retirement

Following news of House Speaker Paul Ryan’s retirement, FreedomWorks president Adam Brandon released the following statement:

“We wish Speaker Ryan the best in his retirement. Though he served in his current role for a short time, he oversaw a historic tax code overhaul that continues to boost the middle class and grow the economy.”

“House Republicans should take their time picking his successor. Tax reform was only half the battle. The next Speaker must be willing to fight for real spending cuts and a return to regular order.”

“The status quo of the Republican Party is not sustainable. The House Freedom Caucus and other likeminded House conservatives are the future of the GOP. The next Speaker must embrace these conservatives and work with them to make the GOP the party of free markets and limited government again.”
