Governor Rick Scott declared June 12 as Pulse Remembrance Day, which will honor the 49 people who passed away along with countless others that were injured in the nightclub shooting two years ago.

Flags will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset, and a proclamation was made at 9:00 am on Monday by the Governor for a moment of silence. The proclamation featured the names of the 49 victims. At the time, the Pulse nightclub shooting was considered the deadliest shooting to have ever taken place in the United States.

Governor Scott wrote that “I remain committed to making sure our state never forgets these brave 49 individuals, that we continue to express our profound sympathy to the families who lost loved ones during this tragic event, and always remember that Florida is resilient and will endure during times of great tragedy.”

This year has marked a battle concerning gun control, and the topic has been pushed to the forefront in the political arena. It also comes at a time when the midterm elections are approaching, and several politicians have commented on the issue.

In response to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, a controversial gun control bill was passed, which has gained supporters and detractors.
